Project Overview and Proposals
Valor Power is excited to unveil proposals for a 150MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the Dunsilly DEA in Antrim. The proposed development will comprise of a BESS Storage System (150MW) including battery enclosures and 110kV substation with associated transformers, new switch house and control room (with photovoltaics (PV) panels to roof), lighting and closed-circuit television (CCTV) columns, boundary fencing, landscaping, installation of water hydrants, and associated works including the construction of a new access road from Lislunnan Road.
Where is the Proposed Site?
The proposed development is located at lands c.40m south and c.130m east of No. 64 Lislunnan Road, c.130m south west of No. 89A Carncome Road, and c. 60m north east of No. 56 Lislunnan Road, Kells, Ballymena.
Redline site location to the East of the Lislunnan Road and to the South of the Maxwell Road.
Who is Bringing Forward the Proposals?
The application is being brought forward and delivered by Valor Power who were established in 2024 to deliver independent energy solutions across the island of Ireland.
Valor Power is an innovative energy company based in Northern Ireland, dedicated to advancing the transition to a low-carbon future through sustainable, scalable solutions.
The company specialise in the development of integrated energy systems that combine renewable energy generation, battery energy storage (BESS), and intelligent energy management to create resilient, future-ready infrastructure.
What are Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)?
As a concept, battery storage acts as a decarbonisation enabler: allowing the deployment of more renewable energy such as offshore wind onto the grid, by helping to match supply with demand.
This is done by absorbing over-production of electricity when the supply is greater than the demand, for example during periods of high winds, then discharging that energy back onto the electrical grid when it is needed such as at times of demand peaks.
These projects make a significant contribution in meeting the UK and NI’s Net Zero targets, whilst increasing energy security and reducing reliance on imported power or gas from other countries to meet shortfalls in our energy generation.
